8:45 – 9:45 AM Water Conservation in the Landscape

This presentation will cover common misconceptions about plant water use and irrigation such as turfgrass is a water hog. To better understand landscape water needs, we will discuss how we can use evapotranspiration and rainfall values to determine when and how much to irrigate. We also will discuss research on the water needs of shrubs during establishment and ways to reduce water use. Finally, we will discuss other ways to conserve water in the landscape such as using mulches and modified irrigation systems.

Explore the critical role Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) play in enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of landscape management practices. Aligning with Florida's Green Industry Best Management Practices (GI-BMP), attendees will learn how Eco-friendly PGRs contribute to Green Industry sustainability and help to protect Florida's water resources. Attendees will gain insights into how PGRs can significantly reduce green waste, water consumption, labor frustrations, and the use of pesticides or fertilizers, all while promoting healthier, more resilient landscapes. This workshop not only provides practical knowledge on using Plant Growth Regulators as a tool for your business but also emphasizes how these practices align with state-mandated environmental stewardship goals.

This presentation will explore the importance of getting your GI-BMP certificate and understanding how the green industry can help reduce local non-point source pollution in our Florida ecosystem. Attendees will learn about the laws that regulate fertilizing practices in the state and local municipalities, what non-point sources are, and how they can make a big impact on preserving our ecosystem.

The presentation will also highlight the connection between Florida-friendly landscapes, water management, fertilizer, and pesticide use to promote healthy growth without impacting the environment. Participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical insights to make informed decisions and adopt Green Industry Best Management Practices.
